You have such a cool name! Give us 5 words to describe DANIMAL KINGDOM's music. Hmmm, I guess you would need 'pop', and 'indie'.... and maybe 'synths', and perhaps 'solo', and, and....... POOPIE

When did you start playing music? What is your musical background?Past obligatory violin and recorder in childhood, and choir in school (yeh I know, dweeb!) I started making crap dance music when i was about 15 on my own and tried to start a band with a couple of friends but they were douchebags and I was too into Apollo 440. it wasn't until art school, surprise surprise, that i started a proper band called Bolt Action Five which lasted for a couple of years and then I did my cousin Kissy Sell Out's album with him and here I am!

What was the first record you ever bought? What about your influences?Ha, this probably says a lot about me, but the first song bought for me was 2Unlimited - No Limit, and the first record I bought myself was Ooh La La by the Wiseguys, aka Touche, whom I met last year because he's in Black Ghosts now. Not that I make rave or bigbeat though.... One of my biggest influences is The Beastie Boys, they were favourite band throughout my teenage years and they showed me that you can be really eclectic and you don't have to stick to one genre to excell.
My current influences didn't really appear until uni when I was properly introduced, usually by girls I fancied, to Devo, Orange Juice and bands of the 80s. The girls had way better taste than the boys at arts school; all the boys were into crap hip hop!

You were playing several gigs with ESSER these days. How was it? do you plan to play in france anytime soon? Will you have an album out soon?Actually my first gig was in france! but it was up a mountain, so I can understand if you didn't hear it. The Esser gigs were really fun, and gave my live band the chance to gel a bit, although expect lineup changes quite regularly because people can't stick around for no money! I'm basically getting two of each musician because everyone has other jobs. Esser and his band are lovely chaps. I was worried they might be a bit too cool for school but they were really funny and made us feel welcome. They had asked us to support them after all!

What do you listen to these days? Any cool band you recommend?Been listening to US bands a lot, like Abe Vigoda and Vivian Girls, there's a NY singer called White Magic who has some really great songs. There's a NY band called Giantess who I really like. I like Marina and the Diamonds, she practices at the same rehearsal studio as me, but i have yet to summon the courage to talk to her! I loved the White Williams album, but to be honest I don't listen to a great deal. My girlfriend is a music obsessive, she was music editor of Dazed Digital but she got promoted last week, so I get tips off her.
